We made your clothes campaign

April 24th marks the fourth anniversary of the devastating collapse of Rana Plaza, which claimed the lives of 1,138 textile workers in Bangladesh in 2013. Since then, the Fashion Revolution movement has launched globally to raise awareness about the dangerous working conditions in which our clothing is made. The campaign reminds us of our individual and collective responsibilities as consumers to ensure that our purchases are as ethical as possible.
At Betina Lou, we take this responsibility to heart year round, so we decided to take part in the movement by presenting a series of portraits of the people involved in the design and manufacturing of our clothing. These are the faces behind the famous “Made in Canada” label you’ll find on all of our products.

We regularly share our creation process via our Instagram photos and “stories,” but we rarely have the chance to show off our meticulous and talented collaborators who cut, assemble and spot check every item down to the last thread, so we can always deliver quality products worth cherishing for a long time. Today, we take the time to introduce them and say thank you.

We believe that no one should compromise their safety, endanger their life, be imprisoned unjustly, work twenty hours a day, or be separated from their family for months at a time just to make the clothing we wear.
We believe that these workers are entitled to a salary that covers their basic needs and the needs of their children. We believe they should work reasonable hours and have the right to form associations to demand adequate working conditions.

We believe it is our duty to ask every brand “Who Made My Clothes?” It is time that consumers demand more transparency from manufacturers. It is time that our governments refine their importation policies to include more exact criteria for labor standards and environmental impact in the textile and clothing industry.
Join the movement by using #whomademyclothes to get answers about the brands you wear. Visit the Fashion Revolution website to find out more about what you can do to help. Complete guides are available for citizens, students, designers, boutiques, manufacturers and teachers. We also suggest for you to watch The True Cost, a documentary that will help you to better understand the issue – https://truecostmovie.com/

New brands in store!

Our shop is constantly discovering new local brands, and we are particularly excited to share our most recent favourites. Everything sold in our store is responsibly manufactured, so that’s one more reason to love them!

This spring, we welcome Aune jewellery, whose pieces are minimalist and elegant, perfect for both special occasions and every day life. We are also excited to carry Ontario-made Minnow Bathers swimsuits, as well as Archipel notebooks, an essential for anyone on the go. We also have vegetable tanned leather bags from The Stowe and Matu, available in-store and online.

We receive new products on a regular basis, so stop by the store frequently or check us out online!

New season, new guest artist!

We love to introduce our customers to local talent, so we are happy to present Thaïla Khampo, the newest artist at the boutique. Thaïla is an illustrator and graphic designer from Montreal, inspired by patterns, mystery, beautiful stories, naïve art and caustic humour. Currently at the boutique we have a triptych of large-format banners and a poster entitled Sky Blue, measuring 22” x 29”.

These posters were custom-made especially for us, so come and see them in the store for a limited time. They are also available on our website.

Our spring collection is now available!

You can now find the complete collection on our website, at the Marmier Betina Lou boutique and at most of our stockists. The few missing pieces will be delivered very soon.

For our spring collection, we were inspired by architecture, nature and travel. The clothes are loose and comfortable, while still achieving a modern, feminine look. We are reinventing ourselves with new silhouettes and a growing use of responsible materials—hemp, organic cotton, Tencel, local yarns and Oeko-Tex certified bamboo are all in the spotlight this season.

Any ordered placed online is carried out within 48 hours and, in most parts of Montreal, delivered by bicycle!

Pop-up Maguire shoes

If you’re like us, and you prefer to wear an outfit “made in Canada,” you know it’s not easy to find quality shoes made in Quebec, let alone in Canada. It’s becoming easier and easier to find beautiful clothes made locally, but that’s still not the case when it comes to shoes.

Our curiosity was piqued after discovering Maguire shoes at Souk @ Sat. We met with the founders of the company and discovered that we shared the same values of responsible production and transparency, with design and quality at the forefront of our brands.

We came up with the idea of a pop-up at Betina Lou, and here it is! We are very excited to offer you Maguire shoes, exclusively in our store and online. We are the only boutique that carries them, but for a limited time only! The pop-up will run for two months, from March 15th through May 15th.

Come by the store to try a pair on, or find them on our website.

New illustrator in store: Cécile Gariépy

We are very happy to announced that the well-known Cécile Gariépy is our new illustrator in store! She is known worldwide, with appearances in the New York Times, Bosquet magazine and in a publicity campaign for Plaisir Gastronomique, just to name a few. We love her work and are very proud of what she created especially for us.

Her artwork will be displayed at the boutique for three months, until March. Come by the store to admire it.

Marché des ateliers du Capitol (16 et 17 décembre)

Stop by and see us on Friday, December 16 (12 to 8 p.m.) and Saturday, December 17 (12 to 6 p.m.) at this year’s edition of the Marché des Ateliers Capitol. Even though our studio hasn’t been located at Ateliers Capitol since June, we’d love to see you there once again!

You’re sure to find perfect holiday outfits for all the season’s parties and gifts for everyone left on your Christmas list!

Over 40 Montreal artisans will be selling clothing and accessories for men and women, as well as toys, food and plants.

On the menu: wine and canapés from on Friday 5 p.m., and treats from Café Pista to warm you up on Saturday.

Join us at 5795 avenue de Gaspé, near Montreal’s Rosemont Metro Station, under the Van Horne viaduct.

Keep up on the latest news on the event’s official Facebook page and brand new Instagram account.

This event is open to everyone. See you there!
